Description
If you love blue flowers, ‘Blue Satin’ is the best, strongest growing, blue flowering variety of Rose of Sharon we’ve grown in our gardens here in north-central Georgia. It is much better than most other blue flowering varieties. Large, stunning, true-blue flowers are produced in abundance during the heat of summer, when we need soothing colors in the garden. The hummingbirds and butterflies will thank you for planting Blue Satin!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall with a spread to about 6 feet, Blue Satin Rose of Sharon is ideal for use as a large shrub or small tree. We think Rose of Sharon are most useful in the landscape as a focal point specimen. That said, they are also nice grouped or used as attractive, colorful hedges in landscape borders. Remove lower branches from your Rose of Sharon and you have a stunning small tree that fits perfectly in smaller garden spaces, home foundation plantings, around patios and other outdoor living spaces, or just about anywhere in the sunny landscape.
Spacing:Â Â 4′ for solid hedge; 8′ for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon are easy to grow and maintain in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. Some shade will be tolerated but flowering won’t be as heavy and plants may be leggier and tend to flop. Maintenance is minimal requiring little or no pruning and plants are quite drought tolerant when established.Â

The Hibiscus is very happy! It was shipped really well and is a strong healthy plant. It has grown about 3 inches since planting despite some adverse weather, and is starting to thicken up and is a wonderful addition to the garden!————————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Just wanted you 2 Wilsons to know so far I’m very satisfied with my purchase. The blue satin althea was very well packaged & arrived with no damage whatsoever. I got her in the ground within 2 days on the southeast side of our house. I won’t know till she leaves out next spring but the branches seem to be bendable with no evidence of dead limbs.
Can’t wait till next spring/summer to see her flower. I’m expecting beautiful blue blooms that will be a grand accent to our house.
I’ll let u know how it does.——————————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

I received my Rose of Sharon in good condition with the soil still moist and blooms intact. I planted it right away. The next day, the deer had eaten half of the plant because the leaves and blooms are edible. I then placed netting around the rest of the plant to give it a chance. Soon it began to regrow leaves. I am sure it will be fine and thank Wilson Bros. for a quick delivery.————————————Those pesky deer….glad its growing new leaves. Get some Milorganite fertilizer, and spread it around the plant, the deer hate the smell. You can probably get it at your local hardware store or nursery. We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
